Media Studies Terminology:?

Ive confused myself.
Whats Conglomerate?
And whats Synergy?
And whats the difference between the two, so I can try and remember it :]

A conglomerate is one of the huge companies like sony or universal.
Synergy is the coming together or cross promotion between more than one industry for a mutual benefit, for example there is synergy between the james bond films and shirley bassey. Shirley bassey sings some of the soundtrack music for the james bond film, so the two industries are film and music.
I think you might be a bit confused with convergence and conglomerate because you cant really compare conglomerate and synergy.
But convergence is the combination of several media technologies into one. For example the iPhone which does more than just be a phone, it can go on the internet, play music, take photos etc. A laptop is also an example of convergence because you can do many things on it - internet, perhaps pictures on a webcame etc.
So the differecne between convergence and synergy is that convergence is the combination of several medias into one and synergy is the coming together of different industries.
