How do you know if a fender jazz bass is a Mexican model or an American model?
The serial number on the headstock will usually tell you. Also, modern rules for manufacturing require country where it was made to be printed on the item. So, on the headstock, you'll see the serial number and typically, a "made in mexico" printed underneath. The Mexican models will always, I think, begin with an "MN" or "MZ". A lot of times guys will try to remove the "made in mexico" decal and make it tougher. If you ever are in doubt, you can easily remove the 4 screws that hold on the neck and look at the markings in the pocket of the body and/or the base of the neck. They will show distinct markings as well depending on their country of origin.
