Should i get the mxl v67g or audio technica at2020?
i dont have much money. and i need a high quality microphone for my home studio. thanks!!(:
i don't mind the at 2020. i've never used the MXL. i would recommend a Rode NT1a. it's about $240 but as far as sound i would put it in the same catagory as mics ranging over a few thousand dollars. i've heard it on a number of different applications and have not been let down.
in my opinion the mic is the most important piece of gear when recording. being cheap when it comes to a mic will hurt your recording. i would always recommend saving a little longer and purchasing a better mic than settling with something that has poor quality. just be sure to read the reviews of everything before you buy it. you can find out a lot of small problems people have with the stuff in a review, and that may be what makes or breaks the sale for you. if someone says it sounds bad on an acoustic, and you are wanting to record an acoustic, take that into consideration.
another suggestion is the sm58. its a standard in most studios and live recording. it retails around $100 if i remember correctly.
another suggestion would be to do a search for recording studios and checking out the mics that the studios use. you will obviously see some high end mics, but you can go through and look for what cheaper mics are found in a lot of studios. if it wasn't a good mic, studios wouldn't keep it around, so that may be a good idea.
