What is the difference / advantages of ion trap mass spectrometry mass spectrometry quadrapole?
What is the difference Benefit / mass spectrometry ion trap mass spectrometry on quadrupole? I'm looking to buy a GC-MS and I can not get a final answer from one of the suppliers on the advantages / disadvantages between the two types. on a budget (£ 30K), which point to a trap ions (expandable MS / MS Software). But quadrupole is much more expensive (£ 50K +)... Triple Quad + 90 pounds I am looking PCB low VOC, etc. in water, effluent, hydrocarbons ... so I'll be looking
Both the quad and ion trap will be very rapid analysis equipment, so that the temporal resolution should not be a problem for anyone. The only advantage of your budget if you can get a trap is the MS / MS. This will allow to a more complex fragmentation volatile organic compounds, etc. complete the structural classification. My personal experience is the use of spectroscopy nuclear quadrupole (ICP-had a quad) so I'm a bit confused about how they are good for organic MS. MS Organic My experience is to use a trap linear. The trap is large, you should be able to get MS ^ 3 in the column without too many problems, only limited by the amount you in your samples and the amount of sample that can load in your column!
